We have nothing to fear from a super-advanced AI like Skynet or the Matrix in the far future. Some people would refer to this type of AI as Artificial General Intelligence. But such use of AI seems still to be a long way down the road. The original Blade Runner asks this question directly by making the protagonist ambiguously human, not knowing whether his memories make him human or not. AI makes us think of films like Terminator or iRobot or The Matrix where machines take over the world and seek to destroy humanity (and pictures like the one above are not very helpful). In sci-fi where AI is more integrated into society, the questions are more around what defines being human.
